# Billing

> Manage workspace billing, editor seats, usage balances, and overage settings.

Use this page to find the billing controls and understand what counts toward workspace usage.

## Where to manage billing

Open [**Workspace settings**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=billing) for plan and billing controls.

Open [**Usage**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=usage) for workspace balances and overage behavior.

Workspace billing can include:

* base plan selection
* included editor seats
* extra editor seats
* AI message usage
* automation run usage
* subscription management

## Seats: who counts

Owners and editors count as billable seats. Viewers do not. Custory AI does not count as a billable member.

Seat usage can change when an owner:

* invites an editor
* approves a join request
* promotes a viewer to editor

If the workspace is already at its included editor count, Custory checks seat capacity before completing the change.

## Extra editor seats

On plans that support extra seats, owners can configure extra member billing from the **Members** tab in workspace settings.

Extra seats can be billed monthly or annually, depending on the plan setup. If the workspace cannot add another editor yet, Custory prompts the owner to upgrade or finish extra-seat setup before the role change continues.

## Usage balances

Open [**Usage**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=usage) to review current balances.

Custory tracks workspace-level balances such as:

* AI messages
* automation runs
* seats
* journeys
* personas

AI messages and automation runs are consumed over time.

Seats, journeys, and personas are current-count balances. They show how much exists now; they are not spent like credits.

## AI messages

AI message usage covers in-product AI work where Custory generates, drafts, summarizes, or analyzes for you.

Common examples:

* drafting or refining journey content
* persona drafting
* AI-assisted imports
* AI help while building automations

## Automation runs

Automation-run usage counts actual automation executions, not drafts saved in the builder.

This includes:

* scheduled runs
* event-triggered runs
* other active automation work that actually executes

## Usage controls

Owners can manage overage billing from [**Usage**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=usage) for supported balances such as:

* AI messages
* automation runs

If usage billing is unavailable for the workspace, the usage tab shows that state.

## Workspace deletion and billing

Deleting a workspace immediately cancels paid billing for that workspace.

That includes:

* the active paid plan
* extra-seat billing
* paid add-ons tied to that workspace

Workspace deletion is owner-only and destructive. If the workspace should continue for other members, transfer ownership first or remove individual members instead.
