# Manage your team

> Invite members, change roles, review join requests, and remove workspace access.

Use this page as a reference for member access in a Custory workspace.

## Roles

Custory uses three core human roles.

| Role     | Access                                                                                                                                      |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `Owner` | Manages workspace settings, billing, members, invitations, role changes, integrations, ownership transfer requests, and workspace deletion. |
| `Editor` | Creates and edits journeys, items, automations, integrations, and day-to-day workspace content. |
| `Viewer` | Reads workspace content without editing the shared map. |

## Invite teammates

Only workspace owners can send invitations.

1. Open [**Workspace settings -> Members**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=members).
2. Click **Invite Members**.
3. Enter the email address.
4. Choose `Editor` or `Viewer`.
5. Click **Invite**.

Owners cannot invite another owner directly. Ownership transfer is a separate request from workspace settings.

## Seat checks

Owners and editors count as billable seats. Viewers do not.

Custory checks editor-seat capacity when an owner:

* sends an editor invitation
* approves a join request
* changes a viewer to editor

If the workspace is at its included editor-seat limit, Custory may require an upgrade or extra member billing setup before the change continues. For billing details, see [Billing](/billing-and-usage).

Starter includes 1 editor seat and does not support extra editor seats. Team and Scale plans can support extra editor seats, depending on the workspace billing setup.

## Pending invitations

The members table shows pending invitations with **Invite pending** status.

Owners can cancel a pending invitation from the members table. Custory prevents sending a duplicate active invitation to the same email address in the same workspace.

Invitation acceptance is tied to the invited email address. If the invitation is expired, already used, or opened from the wrong account, send a new invitation to the correct email address.

## Join requests

People who discover an existing workspace can request access.

Owners can review join requests in [**Workspace settings -> Members**](https://app.usecustory.com/workspace-settings?tab=members) and approve or reject them.

Approving a join request adds that person with editor access, so it can affect billable seat count.

## Change roles

Owners can change non-owner members between `Editor` and `Viewer` from the role selector in the members table.

Changing a viewer to editor can trigger the same seat-capacity checks as an editor invitation.

## Remove members

Owners can remove members from the members table. Removed members lose access to the workspace until they are invited again.

Owners cannot remove themselves by using the member removal action. Editors and viewers can leave a workspace from workspace settings. Owners must transfer ownership before leaving.
