# Version history

> Review journey snapshots, label important versions, and restore an older state.

Use version history to inspect saved journey states and restore one when needed.

## What version history captures

Custory records snapshots from events such as:

* session start
* session end after changes
* an abandoned editing session that had changes
* the safety snapshot created before restoring an older version

Each snapshot shows the trigger, time, label if one has been added, and counts for stages, steps, and items.

## Actions

In version history, you can:

* inspect earlier states
* preview before restoring
* label meaningful checkpoints
* restore an older version

## How to restore safely

1. open version history
2. select the snapshot you care about
3. preview that version
4. confirm it is the state you want
5. restore only if needed

Do not restore based on timestamp alone.

## Label important states

Add labels when a snapshot needs a recognizable name.

Examples:

* `Before onboarding rewrite`
* `Post workshop baseline`
* `After Q2 cleanup`
* `Before restore`

## Notes

* Restoring creates a safety snapshot before the older version is applied.
* Labels make old snapshots easier to identify than timestamps alone.
* Version history restores journey state. Comments are still the better place to preserve why a change was made.
